Sana Essencia is a small UK company founded by Patricia Cruz in 2026. We explain what scent does and doesn't do, in plain English, and give employers practical tools to manage work-related stress.
Who's behind it
Patricia Cruz founded Sana Essencia out of a passion for neuroscience and for studying how the brain responds to the world around us.
Her sense of smell is part of her everyday life. She uses scent to stimulate her mind when she needs to focus, and to decompress when the day is done. Wanting to understand why that works, and how smell reaches the parts of the brain linked to emotion and memory, is at the heart of Sana Essencia.
She works in a corporate environment alongside people from a wide variety of professions. That has shown her, day to day, how much safety and wellbeing matter to people at work, and how much professionals need practical support to look after both.
Why Sana Essencia exists
Scent is everywhere at work, in receptions, washrooms, meeting rooms and products, but much of what is said about it is overstated. We read the research and say plainly what it supports and what it doesn't.
Employers already have a legal duty to manage work-related stress, the same duty that covers every other workplace risk. The tools for doing it are often long and hard to use. Ours are short, practical and built on HSE's six Management Standards areas.
How we work
- Honest science, no health promises. We explain what each scent does and what the evidence shows, including where it is weak.
- Independent. We don't sell oils or devices, so our advice doesn't depend on what you buy.
- Scent is always optional. It is agreed with the team, with care for allergies, asthma and sensitivities, and scent-free spaces are always kept.
- People and work come first. Scent can't fix heavy workloads or poor management. Good work design does that.
- Plain English and 100% digital. Everything is delivered online, by download, email or video call.
What we don't claim
We are not health professionals, and we are not a health and safety consultancy. Our materials support your own risk assessment and the advice of a competent health and safety professional; they don't replace them. Where a product you make needs a safety assessment or labelling checks, that stays with whoever makes and sells it.
In the UK and Brazil
